Shopping and gift bags tend to pile up during the holiday season. We received a Christmas treat inside a large brown paper bag from a local ice cream shop last week which inspired me to create an activity for the kids. If your home is like mine, you likely have several paper bags currently in your recycling bin or tucked away to reuse next year. If not, this simple craft can be duplicated with cardboard, kraft paper, leftover gift wrap, etc. making it easy to find the supplies you need on hand.
- Paper shopping or gift bag
- Washi tape
- Gift labels
Start by hand-drawing a sweater outline with a pen on the outside of your bag. While the sizing will be dependent on the bag you choose, I was able to make three sweater cutouts from this single grocery-sized shopping bag. Once your outline is complete, cut out your sweater design. You can also allow children to cut the shape out themselves if you feel comfortable with their use of scissors.
With your design cut out, your child can now decorate with stickers, gift labels, washi tape, bows, etc. If your child prefers to draw and color, this is also a great blank canvas to allow for their creativity to shine.
